Abstract

ABSTRACT:
Socially Responsible Investment (SRI) is considered the most dominant form of sustainable finance. It is the reflection of CSR within the financial markets. Indeed, this type of investment aims to reconcile financial performance (FP), like traditional investment, and extra-financial performance based on the consideration of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) aspects.
Theoretical contributions as well as previous empirical studies have shown a lack of clear consensus around SRI performance. While there are some who support its outperformance, there are also others who insist on its underperformance. Similarly, some others state that it is neither under-nor over-performing, in other words that is neutral.
The purpose of this research is to analyze the performance of SRI in the Moroccan context. In particular, to study the performance of the Casablanca ESG10 index in comparison with MASI index and MSI20 (MADEX) index. According to the results, the Casablanca ESG10 underperforms its conventional counterparts in terms of absolute return and risk-adjusted return. The results obtained have no statistical significance.
Key words: Socially Responsible Investment, Corporate Social Responsibility, ESG criteria, financial.
