Abstract

The question of financial structure has been the subject of much academic research. Financial theory on this subject shows that certain factors influence a company's financial structure. The aim of this article is to study the effect of certain recurring variables in the literature review on the debt ratio of 62 Mauritanian SMEs studied over a 3-year period. The variables are measured from the balance sheet data of the sampled companies, using Excel for calculation. Eviews and SPSS were used for econometric modeling and descriptive statistics. Multiple linear regression on panel data showed that the variables: profitability, profitability, guarantees and risk have a significant influence on the debt ratio of sampled SMEs, while the effect of these variables: growth, sector and size is not statistically significant.
